Anchorage Waterways Council

Environment

AWC was founded in 1986 to clean up local waterways that were rife with sewage and trash. Since then, Anchorage's creeks and lakes have greatly improved, but there is always more to do. We organize annual creek cleanups, monitor creeks with a variety of scientific tests, respond to citizen concerns and issues, provide outdoor experiential education to students, and do outreach and education on a variety of issues. These include: pet waste (Scoop the Poop), and impacts from garden and yard chemicals, stormwater runoff, and climate change. Much of what we do is only funded by donations and with the help of volunteers.
