Alaska Veterans Museum

Military

The Alaska Veterans Museum is a 100% volunteer organization whose mission is to see that our military veterans are not forgotten. We do this in a 10 room museum that starts with the Early Territory Days in Alaska. We have rooms dedicated to WWI, 3 rooms on WWII (Alaska is the only state that was invaded and occupied for 11 months by the Japanese in WWII),. We have a room dedicated to women in the military, a room for the Cold War ( Alaska is the only state to test fire Hercules missiles) and Korea. There is a room dedicated to Vietnam and the Gulf Wars. The last room's exhibit is currently the Tuskegee Airmen.

We also collect and maintain the oral histories of Alaska's veterans (Hero's), give presentations to school and civic groups. All visitors are offered docent guided tours. We are open Wednesday-Saturday 10-5 in the Winter and Monday-Saturday 10-5 in the Summer.
